900 urban poor scholars of Caritas Manila graduate
His Eminence Gaudencio B. Cardinal Rosales, Archbishop of Manila, and Chairman of Caritas Manila (CM) led the recognition rites for 897 scholars under the Caritas Manila Youth Servant Leadership Education Program (YSLEP) who graduated from different levels this school year. Cardinal Rosales assisted by Rev. Fr. Anton CT Pascual, Executive Director of CM celebrated a mass at the historic Manila Cathedral in for the scholars of Caritas, Saturday May 29, 2010.
129 graduated in the elementary level; 448 in high school; 274 in college; And, 46 graduated from the vocational courses under Caritas’ scholarship program and urban poor empowerment.
Caritas Manila’s scholarship program has over 5000 scholars annually with priority being given to the children of the poorest of the poor among the urban poor sector of Metro Manila. Under YSLEP, equal attention is given to leadership formation together with scholarship assistance. Excellence in knowledge, skills, and attitude is emphasized. Regular formation anchored on the Catholic social teachings is also given to both the scholar and the parents or guardians.
